Wave Serpent

As I'd mentioned before, next model finished is Wave Serpent.

I've already told you why I like this unit. I would probably use three to five, but the problem is, I hate painting vehicles. That and equal hatered towards mail order only models is the reason I don't have Fire Prisms. Maybe one day, but not anytime soon.

Next in line are a pair of Archons. As I have three units ready for Craftworlds, I need to give my Drukhari some love. Expecially that Archons have a strange habit of becoming man of the match in my games. Withstanding round of shooting and charge from Agressors? No problem. Killing Smash Captain in one round? Archon is your man. I know that in those cases I got quite lucky, but still, for such cheap model I really like them.

Of course, the list I wrote for the tournament will probably get changed. After yesterday's game I give Crimson Hunter Exarchs some serious thoughts. One won't do much good, but two... Or three? That's more like it.

Small game against Cadians

Tonight me and my friend Janek played a 750 game of 40k. My Craftworlds Eldar met Cadians supported by Smash Captain of Blood Angels.

Janek won the roll-off and chose to be attacker. His deployment picture above consisted of Pask, Commisar, Commander, two units of guardsmen, unit of guardsmen with mortar team, three mortars and wyvern.

I'd set most of my army outside guard's lines of sight. My army featured Autarch, Farseer, Warlock (all three skyrunners), Dire Avengers, Storm Guardians, Rangers, Dark Reapers and Crimson Hunter Exarch.

I have managed to sieze the initiative.

My plane, Reapers and wizards killed Pask on turn one, securing first blood.

I can't describe whole game in detail, cause it was pretty late at night and my memory doesn't serve as it used to.

Janek managed to kill Crimson Hunter, Rangers, Dire Avengers, Storm Guardians and Warlock. To be honest, Warlock killed himself with perils of the warp.

All the models I killed (everything except Commander).

All the models I lost. All in all I won, and have several good tactical ideas, therefore as soon as I got home I launched BattleScribe. Results will be written about very soon. Cheers.

Farseer Skyrunner

I just have finished second model for my Aeldari army - Farseer Skyrunner.

I use him the "mainstream" way, giving him Doom and either Executioner or Guide. The curious thing is - I usually prefer to use Warlocks. Main reason is - I play with Eldar Soup, so only part of my army can use the benefits of attacking doomed target. Don't get me wrong, Farseers are one of the best Craftworlds units. The thing is - the more Craftworlds units you have, the better they become.

Next in painting is Wave Serpent, clearly one of the best vehicles in 40k.

Challlenge for myself and Wave Serpent talk

Idea is simple: to play the tournament on 21.03 with fully painted army. Doesn't sound that difficult, but I don't have that much time for painting every day.

The list I chose for this event is a bit strange, as I don't field any hard hitting units like Crimson Hunter Exarchs, Fire Prisms or Shining Spears.

Exactly like for previous tournament, I chose two detachments, Battalion and Patrol. I thought about two Battalions, as I have a bit more points (1250 to be exact) but I don't think I need that 5CP that much, expecially if I would have get rid of some important units to squeeze in two more troops.

I won't talk much about the list, as I'll have time to do it in my post about the tournament. Instead, I'll tell you what models I will need to paint, and at which stage of completion they currently are:

- Archon (converted, primed)
- Archon (converted, primed)
- 5 Kabalites (basic colours and shading)
- 5 Kabalites (basic colours and shading)
- 5 Kabalites (basic colours and shading)
- Ravager (main hull painted)
- Raider (assembled)
- Venom (main hull painted)
- Venom (primed)
- Venom (primed)
- Autarch Skyrunner (finished)
- Warlock Skyrunner (almost painted)
- 8 Storm Guardians (I'm still converting them as chainswords are hard to come by)
- 3 Dark Reapers (assembled)
- Wave Serpent (mostly painted)
- Wave Serpent (I still need to buy it)

So, there's quite a lot of work ahead of me. Of course I'll post my progress here.

If you have seen my previous list you can see that I've decided to take two Wave Serpents instead of one. The reason is: I absolutely love this unit. The best transport in the game, if you ask me. The loadout I use is basic Serpent with Twin Aeldari Missile Launcher. It gives me quite a lot firepower mounted on one and only Eldar unit that can reliably take some punishment. 13 wounds, T7, 3+ save and shield that decreases number of wounds suffered by one, to minimum of one.

Of course, you can destroy Wave Serpent. The thing is, if you do so, then you need to put a lot of firepower into this task, leaving rest of my army safe and sound. On the other hand, you can try to kill the rest, knowing that those missile launchers will pound you every turn.

Of course, transport is primary (but not the most usefull) occupation of this vehicle. 12 passanger slots are quite a lot, allowing me to put all of my infantry into one of those (8 Storm Guardians and 3 Reapers). Expecially the later are very important, as starting the game inside will allow them to survive turn one pounding from, say, thunderfire cannon. Then, Reapers can disembark and still hit on 3+, thanks to their rules.

Anyway, I need at least two of Wave Serpents, and am happy that I have an oportunity to put second one on the list.

Wolftime #3

First tournament after such a long break from 40k. I must admit I wasn't sure if my knowledge of Aeldari is good enough for tournament play, but decided to find out.

It was 1000pts tournament, with limit of two detachments. My army was built of Battalion and Patrol, using Drukhari and Craftworlds units:

Battalion (Kabal of the Flayed Skull):
- Archon (Agoniser, Splinter Pistol)
- Archon (Huskblade, Splinter Pistol)
- 5 Kabalites
- 5 Kabalites
- 5 Kabalites
- Ravager (3 Desintegrator Cannons)
- Venom (Splinter Cannon, Twin Splinter Rifle)

Patrol (Expert Crafters, Masterful Shots)
- Autarch Skyrunner (Lance, Warlord: Fate's Messanger, Shimmerplume of Achillral)
- 8 Storm Guardians
- 3 Dark Reapers (Tempest Launcher, Rain of Death)
- Crimson Hunter Exarch (Two Starcannons, Hawkeye)
- Wave Serpent (Twin Aeldari Missile Launcher, Twin Shuriken Catapult)

First battle was against Mechanicum with tank, two onagers, several units of skitarii, bosses and two units of stalkers.

It wasn't an easy game, mostly due to the fact that onagers hit everything that flies on 2+, and in my army everything but infantry flies.

Despite that I managed to win 30:14. Not bad for the first game after such a long pause ;).

Second was against Space Marines, led by smashcaptain and chaplain. Big unit of grav centurions, two scout units, one primaris unit and one unit of those guys with 3 wounds, fists and loads of shots.

I mean really, those primaris units all look the same :P. After several rounds of killing I managed to kill everything but single marine in the ruins. Sadly, the game costed me a lot of my units, and despite having the same number of points I lost due to killpoints. There simply wasn't enough targets to kill! 26:29 for my opponent.

I didn't play the third game cause my I wanted to go to motorcycle event with my girlfriend. My opponent was kind enough to agree on a split, 10:10.

All in all I ended up on third place. I must say, I love this army. Fast, agile, with loads of surprises for my enemies. Now I need to paint all those gray models and get ready for another tournament.

Great Come Back (and first painted model)

Not one, but three come backs, to be exact. First - I came back to 40k after a few years break. Second - I came back to miniature painting after several months. Third - I'm back here, writing this blog I abandoned for such a long time.

Almost all of my 40k models are gone (sold, given away etc), so I've decided to build the new army, the one that requires completely different type of play and much higher level of skill. After some initial thoughts I chose Eldar Soup.

What is Eldar Soup, you may ask. Well, it's an army built around the "Aeldari" keyword. That allows me to field detachments of Craftworld Eldar, Dark Eldar and Harlequins. Mix them all together, and you get a soup. Eldar Soup.

I bought some models and began painting. The first model I'd made is the leader of my Eldar army, the Autarch Skyrunner:

I field him as my Warlord, with lance, Shimmerplume and Fate's Messanger trait. That gives me fast, hard hitting (for Eldar standards at least) model with 7 wounds, 3+/4++/6+++ saves and bonus of regenerating command points on roll of 6. That statisticly is at least one additional command point per battle. Not bad IMO.

Next will be either Wave Serpent (you can see her behind Autarch, waiting to be finished) or Farseer Skyrunner (also WiP). Stay tuned!
